An inspiring call to action highlighting the urgent need to address suicide and drug-related deaths in the LGBTQ+ community, grounded in national data. The

Across the UK, a quiet crisis continues to unfold—one that is too often hidden behind stigma, isolation, and silence. Recent data from the Office for National Statistics showed that LGBTQ+ people are more than twice as likely to die from suicide and almost three times as likely to die from drug-related causes than their heterosexual peers. These are not abstract figures. They represent lives of friends, partners, and chosen family cut short, and communities left grieving. It is on the back of this stark and urgent reality that You Are Loved is launching the campaign “The Silence Ends with Us” This is not just a campaign, it's a movement, and it's needed now more than ever. Why Now? For too long, the scale of loss in our community has been under-recognised and under-addressed. While progress has been made in visibility and rights, many LGBTQ+ people continue to face deep-rooted challenges: loneliness, discrimination, internalised stigma, body image pressures, and a culture that can sometimes prioritise surface over substance. These factors, combined with gaps in culturally competent mental health and drug support services, contribute to a crisis that is both complex and preventable. The Purpose of the Campaign At its heart, The Silence Ends with Us is about mobilisation . It's about breaking the silence that allows suffering to go unseen and unspoken. It calls on every individual in our community to play a role—by talking more openly, by checking in on one another, by sharing experiences, and by supporting those who may be struggling. But this campaign is not only aimed at individuals. It's also a call to action for organisations, charities, and community groups across the UK . We are inviting every LGBTQ+ organisation—large or small—to join the campaign, to lend their voice, and to share why this mission matters to them and the people they serve. By coming together under a shared message, we can amplify impact, increase awareness, and create a unified front that is impossible to ignore. As part of bringing this campaign to life on the ground, You Are Loved is partnering with the play SMOKE to deliver a national tour visiting towns and cities across the UK from April to June 2026. This tour will not only showcase powerful storytelling that reflects the realities many in our community face, but also create space for meaningful local engagement—bringing people together for conversations, connection, and reflection. At each stop, we will work with local LGBTQ+ organisations and community members to spark dialogue around mental health, drug use, and support, ensuring the campaign is not just seen, but felt within communities across the country. A Collective Responsibility The campaign is grounded in a simple but powerful belief: real change will only happen if we all contribute . There is no single solution to a crisis of this scale and complexity. It requires a holistic, community-wide approach —one that addresses not just the symptoms, but the root causes. This means looking at the full continuum of need: Prevention and education – creating spaces and conversations that build resilience, awareness, and healthier relationships with ourselves and each other. Early support and connection – tackling loneliness and isolation by strengthening community bonds and fostering belonging. Crisis intervention – ensuring that those in acute distress have access to timely, culturally competent support. Bereavement support – recognising and holding space for the grief that so many in our community carry, often without adequate recognition or understanding. The Potential of This Movement What makes The Silence Ends with Us powerful is its potential to unite. By aligning individuals, grassroots groups, and national organisations around a shared purpose, we can begin to shift culture—from silence to openness, from fragmentation to solidarity, from reaction to prevention. Imagine a community where it is normal to talk about mental health. Where checking in on a friend is second nature. Where organisations collaborate rather than compete. Where fewer people reach crisis point because support came earlier. This is possible. Join Us This campaign is an invitation to speak, to act, to care, and to lead. If you are an organisation, your platform matters. Join the campaign, add your voice. If you are an individual, your voice matters. Start conversations, share your story, or reach out to someone who might need it. Help shape a collective response that reflects the diversity and strength of our community. Because the truth is, silence has cost us too much already. The silence ends with us.
